In architecture! you can not have gone a single day without having to decide on a font, it might have been for a piece of text you were writing! or adding a spec to a drawing! and Helvetica will almost certainly be in your standard list.

But this week my attention was dragged several times to the death of Mike Parker who was not the creator of Helvetica, but certain was involved in it. This excellent article expands

If your as old as me, you will certainly remember Letraset, the rub on letters we all used to title up our drawings, for me it was one of e first jobs I did to tidy up the card draws full of old Letraset sheets, and of course order new ones so the office was never without.

Sadly this is no longer done as modern computers have done away with the need for Letraset, although I was passing through a modeling shop recently and was so pleased to see a draw system full of the old friend.

For me it was also the time to learn how to write, and so often I was told to practice my writting with three pencil lines and use Letraset as the example.

The first video below is of mIke Parker, but he did not invent Helvetica that goes to Erick spiekerman! see the second video! but he did so much to promote it. Just in case the video does not work try this link.

The video below is of Eric Spiekerman who actually invented or designed helvetica and is one of many, I like this one the best, it tells all, and holds no punches back on Microsoft. I also purchased the Helvetica video from iTune store, it's a must watch.
